Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and current Senator representing Zamfara West in the National Assembly, has advised Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State to refrain from blaming his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, and making unguarded remarks.

Senator Yari urged the governor to focus on addressing the state’s insecurity issues, noting that previous governors had also faced various levels of security challenges and made efforts to tackle them.

Yari, who ruled the state for eight years, said he was the first governor of the state to face an insurmountable challenging security issue but tried his best to ensure tackling the situation.

He stated that Matawalle had made significant efforts to address the state’s insecurity, including engaging in reconciliation with bandit leaders, similar to other governors in the north-west region, and advised the governor to follow a similar approach in dealing with the bandits instead of resorting to blame, which he deemed unnecessary and unhelpful in solving the problem.

He recommended that the governor convene a stakeholders’ meeting to seek advice and support in addressing the state’s challenges, emphasizing that blaming others would not be productive.

Yari noted that since his appointment as Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle has been making significant efforts within his area of responsibility, emphasizing that Matawalle should be seen as a true representative of Zamfara at the federal level, rather than being undermined.

He urged the political class in Zamfara to unite in building the state, rather than indulging in constant political infighting that would hinder its progress.
