News Highlights:

  • ALTON, NCC, and LASIMRA launched the Tower Enumeration Project to identify and address distressed telecom infrastructure in Lagos.
  • The agencies reaffirmed their commitment to a unified regulatory strategy to enhance compliance, safety, and seamless connectivity.

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s telecom infrastructure through enhanced regulatory collaboration, reports Digital TimesNG.

In a high-level meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, ALTON engaged with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) to discuss key industry concerns, including tower enumeration, regulatory compliance, and improved coordination across the sector.

The discussions emphasized the collective goal of safeguarding public and telecom infrastructure, promoting a harmonized regulatory environment, and enhancing public safety while ensuring seamless service delivery across Lagos State.

Given the critical role of telecommunications in Nigeria’s digital economy, the meeting underscored the importance of regulatory synergy in driving sustainable infrastructure development.

ALTON through a statement signed by its Chairman, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo and Publicity Secretary, Damian Udeh, commended the proactive efforts of both LASIMRA and the NCC in fostering a unified regulatory framework that balances industry growth with compliance and safety measures.

“We commend the efforts by LASIMRA and the NCC to foster a unified regulatory environment. ALTON is fully aligned with the objectives and the broader goals of ensuring safety, compliance, and seamless connectivity. This renewed partnership between LASIMRA and NCC is a critical step towards strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and ensuring that telecom operations across Lagos and beyond are safe and compliant,” ALTON stated.

A key highlight of the meeting was the Tower Enumeration Project—a comprehensive audit initiative aimed at identifying all distressing communication infrastructure across Lagos. LASIMRA also raised concerns about damages to public infrastructure caused by some operators during fibre deployment and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing appropriate penalties to preserve public assets.

The parties agreed on the importance of a unified strategy involving NCC, LASIMRA and other stakeholders to bring order to the sector, improve connectivity, and ensure widespread access to high-quality telecommunications services across Lagos.

As Nigeria continues to witness rapid growth in digital connectivity and telecommunications services, this collaborative approach between ALTON, NCC, and LASIMRA signals a new era of enhanced regulatory oversight and industry coordination, ensuring that the nation’s telecom landscape remains robust, resilient, and future-ready.
