LG Electronics has introduced its Smart Dehumidifier to the Nigerian market, positioning it as a practical tool for maintaining healthier, drier, and more comfortable indoor environments across residential and commercial settings.
This development comes as Nigeria’s rainy season intensifies, especially in coastal and high-humidity regions. Homes and workplaces are increasingly grappling with moisture-related problems, from warped furniture and persistent mould to declining indoor air quality.
The launch underscores the company’s broader push toward climate-adaptive technologies tailored to everyday realities in tropical markets.
Now available at all Fouani showrooms nationwide, the LG Smart Dehumidifier is designed to serve a wide spectrum of spaces, including homes, offices, hospitality venues, and retail environments, where effective humidity control is becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity.
The appliance is designed to remove up to 30 litres of moisture per day, equivalent to extracting water from 120 bottles of 250ml each, making it highly effective for moisture-heavy environments common in cities such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano, where weather conditions often combine heat with high humidity.
At the core of the appliance is LG’s Dual Inverter Compressor technology, designed to automatically regulate dehumidification intensity according to surrounding humidity levels. This allows the appliance to maintain efficient moisture control while reducing energy consumption, a major consideration for consumers seeking energy-conscious appliances.
In addition to moisture removal, the Smart Dehumidifier supports healthier indoor air through its HEPA H13 graded Safe Plus Filter, which helps reduce dust, bacteria, allergens and airborne particles often associated with damp indoor environments.
In his opening speech, General Manager, Eco Solutions, LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Joonkyu Song, said the product launch reflects the company’s understanding of the changing lifestyle needs of Nigerian consumers.
“Many Nigerians experience the discomfort of excess humidity without fully realising its long-term effect on health, indoor air quality and household assets. With the LG Smart Dehumidifier, we are introducing a solution that not only improves comfort but also protects homes, supports healthier living and delivers energy-efficient performance suited for our environment.”
He added that the appliance operates quietly at about 33 decibels, allowing it to function effectively in bedrooms, offices and living spaces without causing disturbance.
The launch is centred around two models, the 34L (DD20GMWE1) and 28L (MD16GQWE0), both featuring LG’s dual inverter compressor technology, which automatically adjusts dehumidification intensity based on real-time humidity levels.
By doing so, it not only ensures optimal moisture control but also reduces energy consumption, an essential feature for households mindful of their electricity bills.
The dehumidifier also integrates LG ThinQ™ technology, enabling users to control and monitor humidity levels remotely through their smartphones. Through the smart platform, users can switch the appliance on remotely, schedule operation time, monitor energy usage and receive alerts when the water tank is full.
Its design also prioritises convenience, featuring a waist-level push-and-pull handle, 360-degree caster wheels for easy movement and a transparent water tank that allows quick monitoring of water levels. Additional accessories, including the Shoe Dry Y-hose and Closet Dry T-hose, provide targeted drying for enclosed spaces such as wardrobes, shoes and storage areas.
Speaking on market availability, Mr. Mohamed Hobballah, Showroom Branch Manager, Colours by Fouani Nigeria Limited, Victoria Island, said the launch addresses a growing consumer demand for indoor wellness products.
“Today’s consumers are paying closer attention to air quality, comfort, and health within their homes and offices. The LG Smart Dehumidifier answers that need by bringing premium global technology into the Nigerian market through accessible retail channels nationwide.”
He noted that customers can now access product demonstrations, technical guidance, and after-sales support at Fouani showrooms across the country.
Health Practitioner and Food Safety Expert, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr. Eniola Oni, described the product as timely, especially for regions where moisture frequently affects walls, fabrics, furniture, and general indoor comfort.
“Humidity is an everyday reality in many Nigerian homes, especially in coastal and high-density urban areas. Introducing a product like this helps consumers take proactive control of their indoor environment,” Oni said.
Dr. Oni further noted that maintaining a moisture-free environment not only preserves the integrity of household items but also helps prevent mould and mildew growth, which can trigger respiratory issues and allergies.
“Maintaining optimal indoor humidity levels is essential for health and well-being. This LG Dehumidifier that assists in controlling moisture offers a practical solution to common problems faced by many families, enhancing both comfort and safety within the home,” she emphasised.
The launch further strengthens LG’s smart home and wellness product category in Nigeria, reinforcing its broader strategy of delivering practical innovation tailored to local environmental conditions.
