The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has strengthened Nigeria’s push for a globally competitive digital economy through strategic partnerships with two Canadian technology companies, Goose FL and Fireflies AI.
The agency signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the companies during the Nigeria–Canada Investment Forum and the Nigeria Investment Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada, in a move aimed at attracting technology expertise, innovation and investment into Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
The agreements, witnessed by NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, are expected to support the development of solutions that can expand financial inclusion, strengthen Nigeria’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and accelerate the growth of the country’s digital economy.
A major focus of the collaboration is the deployment of innovative technology solutions capable of extending digital financial services to underserved populations.
The initiative is also expected to create new economic opportunities by leveraging technology to deepen access to financial services and promote broader participation in the digital economy.
Beyond financial inclusion, the partnerships are designed to advance Nigeria’s capacity to develop and deploy AI infrastructure locally.
By supporting indigenous AI infrastructure and services, NITDA seeks to enhance the country’s ability to build, manage and derive value from emerging technologies within Nigeria rather than relying predominantly on external capabilities.
The collaboration also places emphasis on technology transfer, innovation and digital capacity development as mechanisms for achieving sustainable economic growth.
Through stronger links with international technology firms, Nigeria is positioning itself to access global expertise while developing local talent and capabilities.
The agreements align with the Federal Government’s broader economic ambition under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030, with innovation, digital technology and human capital development serving as key drivers of growth.
For NITDA, the partnerships underscore the agency’s strategy of using international collaboration to translate emerging technologies into practical benefits for Nigerians.
The engagement with Goose FL and Fireflies AI is therefore positioned not merely as a technology partnership, but as part of a wider effort to ensure that advances in AI and digital innovation contribute directly to financial inclusion, enterprise development and economic transformation.
