Amazon already launched its data centres for Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Cape Town but its eCommerce services had until now, not been available in Africa.

Smile Nigeria, one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunication services providers, has explained the recent network outage experienced by its customers. The company said in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday that it regretted the inconvenience the outage may have caused its customers. Smile disclosed that the outage was due to network upgrade and modernization activities as well as the maintenance upgrade that it embarked upon to strengthen its network infrastructure. The telecom firm also disclosed that most customers affected by the outage have been compensated and that others yet to be compensated will surely get their bounties in due course.…

The Federal Government has through the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, said that the implementation of the Revised National Digital Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration will commence on Monday, 19th of April 2021.  It also added that the issuance of New SIMs and other suspended activities will resume on the same date, as long as verification is done and the guidelines are fully adhered to. Nigeria’s telecoms regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced new guidelines for National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment for foreigners residing in Nigeria. The NCC said in a public notice today that all persons in Nigeria, including foreigners who use mobile networks, are required to register their SIM cards and link them with the NIN database. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said it has already commenced the consolidation of the set targets of the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (NNBP) 2020-2025 with the directive issued to Infraco licensees to commence the immediate roll-out of optic fibre cables (OFC) as contained in their license agreements to all the LGA headquarters in Nigeria. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have introduced a new fee for customers using the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) services. Effective Tuesday, March 16, 2021, USSD services for financial transactions conducted at Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and all CBN – licensed institutions will be charged at a flat fee of N6.98k per transaction.
