Good news came the way of Professor Umar Garba Danbatta Friday afternoon as President Muhammadu Buhari approved his reappointment as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

A statement by Uwa Suleiman, spokesperson to the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, said the reappointment was in an effort to consolidate the gains made in the telecommunications sector in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy,

“Professor Danbatta’s reappointment was based on the recommendation of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), in line with the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003,” the statement read.

While wishing Professor Danbatta the best, the Minister directed him to significantly improve on the overall performance of the Commission as well as ensure that adequate mechanisms are put in place to facilitate the implementation of all policies of Federal Government through the Ministry.

The Minister further enjoined him to ensure that the interest of telecommunication consumers, Nigerians and investors are adequately protected.

First appointed EVC in August 2015 for a period of five years to succeed Dr Eugene Juwah, Danbatta was before his appointment in 2015, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Kano University of Science and Technology.

The NCC EVC has a PhD in Electronics Engineering.
