- Enugu Air to Launch with Three Aircraft
- 100 CNG Buses and Smart Transport Programme Set for Rollout
The Enugu State Government is poised to inaugurate several major transportation and mobility projects before the administration marks its second anniversary on May 29, 2025.
These initiatives include the launch of a state-owned airline, a fleet of 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses, and the rollout of a comprehensive smart transport programme.
This announcement was made over the weekend following a State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Enugu.
Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transportation, revealed the developments in the company of other senior government officials. The statement was later shared via the official X account of Dan Nwomeh, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Governor Peter Mbah.
Dr. Ozor disclosed that the state airline, Enugu Air, will commence operations with three aircraft—two of which have already arrived, with the third expected before the end of May. He expressed optimism that commercial flights would begin ahead of the administration’s second anniversary.
Regarding the mass transit initiative, Ozor announced that the government has already received 50 CNG-powered buses, with an additional 50 scheduled to arrive within a few weeks.
All 100 buses, he confirmed, will become operational before the end of the month. Currently, the first batch of buses is stationed at Okpara Square in Enugu.
The Commissioner also highlighted the imminent inauguration of five ultramodern bus terminals—two located at Holy Ghost, and one each in Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka.
These facilities are expected to serve as central hubs that will streamline transit operations and enhance commuter convenience throughout the state.
Looking further ahead, Ozor outlined the government’s plan to establish a manufacturing plant in Enugu for CNG and electric vehicles. This facility will support vehicle production and maintenance, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to clean-energy mobility solutions.
Additionally, the Enugu Smart Transport Programme is set to launch within the next 150 days. The initiative is designed to optimize transport routes, digitize ticketing processes, and introduce more than 2,000 electric vehicles into the state’s transportation system.
This comprehensive programme reflects the government’s broader goals of sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation.
