When history remembers the 10th National Assembly, the name Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah will not just echo as a member of the Federal House of Representatives but as a people-focused legislator who raised the bar of representation in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.

Two years into his tenure, what Hon. Ogah has achieved in terms of legislative action, infrastructure, empowerment, and community development is nothing short of a renaissance for a constituency long deprived of its fair share of national dividends.

Hon. Ogah ascended to the Green Chambers with a clear mission—to make governance tangible, accessible, and impactful. “True leadership,” it is said, “is not about being in charge, but about taking care of those in your charge.” And indeed, through his actions, he has proven that service to the people is not an obligation but a passionate commitment.

Legislative Brilliance: Bills and Motions that Matter

Right from his inaugural motion on the floor of the House, Hon. Ogah demonstrated legislative acumen and courage. His first motion on the urgent need to curb incessant killings and kidnappings in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi was not only timely but lifesaving.

That singular action birthed a special House Adhoc Committee and culminated in the collaborative establishment of Operation Crush, a security initiative that has significantly reduced insecurity in the constituency. Today, the haunting silence of fear is giving way to the hopeful rhythm of daily life.

Not one to be a benchwarmer, Hon. Ogah further sponsored several pivotal bills. Among them is the bill for the establishment of the Organic Agriculture and Food Safety Research Institute in Ulonna North, Isuikwuato—a bold step toward revolutionizing food security and organic farming practices in the Southeast.

He also presented a bill proposing the establishment of a Federal College of Nursing, aimed at enhancing access to professional healthcare education in the region. Additionally, his vision for equitable federal representation was echoed in the bill he presented for the creation of Etiti State, a move many hailed as long overdue.

In addition to legislative drafting, Hon. Ogah lent his voice powerfully during plenary debates. His passionate call for the reconstruction of the abandoned Mmam Bridge in Mbala Isuochi stirred national consciousness. He reminded the nation that the bridge, destroyed in 1968 during the civil war, had not been rebuilt even after 55 years—cutting off communities, farmlands, and economic lifelines.

According to him, the failure to reconstruct the bridge is a lingering scar from the war that continues to affect the economic growth and social fabric of the area. Following his submission, the House passed a resolution urging the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to take immediate steps to rebuild the bridge, with its Committee on Legislative Compliance mandated to monitor implementation.

Equally notable is Hon. Ogah’s unwavering advocacy for improved healthcare access, exemplified by his call for the subsidy and free distribution of malaria drugs nationwide—a policy that, if adopted, would directly benefit millions of Nigerians. Little wonder he chairs the House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Control.

Infrastructural Turnaround: Development You Can See

Hon. Ogah is not merely a lawmaker; he is a groundbreaker. In 2024, he facilitated the opening of access roads to the Ulonna North farm settlement, thereby enhancing the transportation of agricultural products and bolstering local agribusiness.

His midas touch in the health sector is evident in the refurbishment and upgrade of the abandoned Isuikwuato General Hospital, now equipped with solar-powered lighting and modern medical equipment.

Hon. Ogah also secured approval for the conversion of the Achara Community Hospital into an annex of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia—a facility now rejuvenated and powered by solar energy.

His health-driven agenda extends to ongoing infrastructural projects. There is a Mother and Child hospital under construction in Mbalano, as well as a modern hospital being built in Lokpa, Umunneochi LGA. These projects reflect his deliberate effort to decentralize access to medical services.

Rural development is central to his representation. He initiated and completed solar-powered boreholes across five major zones of the constituency—Uturu, Isuikwuato, Isuochi, Umuchieze, and Nneato—solving longstanding water scarcity issues in these communities. In education, his interventions are transforming futures.

On December 7, 2024, he flagged off the ₦1.4 billion upgrade of Uturu Secondary School, a federal intervention he attracted through the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC). He also completed classroom blocks at Eziama Nneato Model Secondary School, built six classroom blocks in Nneato, and two classroom blocks in Onuaku, Uturu, all of which are now in use.

He equally electrified the ABSU International Secondary School, and in November 2024, he ensured that the entire ABSU community was illuminated with solar-powered street lights, making night-time movement safer for students and residents.

In the commercial space, his footprint is visible in the reconstruction and solar electrification of the Ukwunwangwu Daily Market, now regarded as the largest open market in Abia North. He also rehabilitated the Ukwunwangwu-Ekeukwu road, giving the area an economic facelift.

At Eke Ndiawa market in Umunneochi and Eke Amiyi market in Isuikwuato, solar street lights have been installed to stimulate rural night-time commerce. Furthermore, the ongoing construction of the modern Lokpanta market promises to consolidate these gains.

In road construction, he has commenced work on the Obiulo-Lekwesi road in Umunneochi, a dual drainage project that is currently in progress. He is also developing the Uturu Township Stadium, providing a hub for youth sports and community events.

Empowerment and Social Investments: Touching Lives Beyond Politics

Hon. Ogah’s social empowerment programs are expansive, inclusive, and impactful. In December 2023, he distributed 600 bags of rice, cash donations, and clothing items valued at ₦40 million to the elderly, women, and other vulnerable groups.

In November 2024, his empowerment drive saw the distribution of cars, commercial buses, motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding and pumping machines, and other tools—all targeted at boosting self-reliance and small-scale enterprise.

March 2025 marked another phase in his empowerment agenda with a special program for rural women, where cash palliatives were disbursed to support small businesses. Between 2nd and 6th June 2025, a Women Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme was launched in Isuikwuato LGA, training scores of women in various income-generating skills.

In the education sector, his scholarship scheme has reached unprecedented numbers. He has awarded 22 all-expense-paid scholarships to students at the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, and an additional 66 scholarships distributed evenly across the 22 wards of the constituency. For the 2023/2024 academic session, he paid WAEC fees for 154 students, followed by another 250 indigent students for the 2024/2025 examinations.

In line with global development trends, Hon. Ogah trained hundreds of youths in ICT and distributed brand new laptops to boost digital literacy and prepare them for 21st-century careers.

A Mandate Truly Honoured

In February 2025, Hon. Amobi Ogah made history by becoming the first-ever lawmaker from Isuikwuato/Umunneochi to host a Town Hall meeting, where he interacted directly with his constituents.

His resolve to remain accountable, transparent, and connected with the grassroots has become a benchmark for effective representation. “Representation without engagement is like a tree without roots,” he stated during the Town Hall. “I will always return to my people to give account.”

Despite distractions and political mischief targeted at undermining his work, Hon. Ogah has remained resolute, focused, and committed to the people. In the words of John Quincy Adams, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” By this measure, Hon. Amobi Ogah is not just a representative; he is a leader, a builder of destinies, and a reformer in motion.

As the sun rises on the third year of his tenure, the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi can look forward with confidence, knowing they have not just a voice in Abuja, but a heart that beats for home.

Indeed, the journey is far from over, but the foundations are firm. Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah is building more than roads and schools, he is building a legacy. And this legacy will be evident enough to return him to the green chambers of the National Assembly in 2027.
