In a significant nod to excellence in public sector communication, Hajiya Hadiza Umar, Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has been named one of Nigeria’s top 50 public relations and communications professionals in the 2025 edition of the prestigious PR Power List.
The recognition, jointly unveiled on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, by GLG Communications in collaboration with The Guardian newspaper, celebrates leading voices shaping strategic communication across Nigeria and the diaspora.
Hajiya Hadiza Umar was honoured in the “Rising Voices” category, which acknowledges fast-emerging communication leaders demonstrating creativity, agility, and measurable impact in public engagement.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Umar described her inclusion as a proud milestone that underscores not only personal achievement but also the growing relevance of strategic communication in national development and digital inclusion.
“Being named among the PR Power 50 is a humbling experience and a reminder of the critical role communication plays in national transformation,” she said.
“At NITDA, our goal has always been to use strategic communication as a catalyst for digital literacy, innovation, and inclusion.
“I dedicate this recognition to my committed team and the visionary leadership of our Director-General, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, who has created an enabling environment for creativity and growth.”
NITDA, operating under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, continues to drive efforts in digital literacy and citizen-focused communication strategies aimed at bridging the digital divide across the country.
Commenting on the calibre of the awardees, Oreani Ogbe, Managing Partner of GLG Communications, stated that the selection committee identified professionals “using influence for public good, leading strategic change, and building narratives that matter.”
The 2025 PR Power List features distinguished professionals across four categories—Rising Voices, Community Impact, Changemakers, and Fourth Estate—spotlighting individuals whose work is reshaping public discourse, influencing policy, and fostering sustainable communication practices.
Hajiya Hadiza Umar’s inclusion in the list further solidifies her standing as a formidable voice in Nigeria’s communication landscape and reinforces NITDA’s image as a digitally-driven, people-oriented government agency.
