The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over alleged attempts by opposition elements to create division within the party through a smear campaign targeting its leaders.

The party said it is closely monitoring recent posts on social media and mainstream media, which it describes as a calculated attempt by certain individuals to incite discord and disrupt unity within the party, alleging that these actions are part of a deliberate effort to create disturbances and undermine cohesion among members.

In a statement signed by Hon Aminu Sani Gumel, Chairman,  All Progressive Congress Jigawa State, the party alleged that these elements who are not even card carrying members of its party, are using some few narrow-minded party members in promoting their sinister agenda against party peace and stability.

“The APC-led Jigawa state government under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi is a reflection and continuation of the immediate past state government led by H.E Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.

“The two Leaders have the party’s confidence and regards to the higher esteem, their reputation is sacrosanct to us and must be guarded jealously,” the party said in the statement.

The party has, therefore, vowed to prevent any attempts by detractors to disrupt the APC-led administration’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises in Jigawa State and across Nigeria.

In response to a recent report targeting the Minister of Defence, Hon. Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, the party stated that it will investigate the allegations, which it described as a “flabbergasting smear campaign,” and will impose appropriate sanctions if warranted.

The party noted that the group behind these accusations is unrecognized by the APC in Jigawa State, alleging that the faceless organization has made unfounded claims against the Minister, including accusations of anti-party activities.

The Jigawa chapter of the party questioned the credibility of the group, highlighting that Hon. Badaru Abubakar served as the APC Northern Region Campaign Coordinator, instrumental in securing Jigawa State and the Northern region for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 general elections.

The APC dismissed other allegations from this unnamed group as “childish and baseless” but affirmed its commitment to identifying those responsible, adding that it would pursue all legal and political actions to deter further attempts to sow discord within its ranks.
