The Kano State Government, Tuesday, launched a comprehensive rural electrification scheme, targeted at over 100 rural communities across the state.
Established by Shenzhen Lemi Technology Development and Lemi Renewable Electricity Limited, the scheme seeks to provide solar home systems to small rural communities.
On completion, the scheme is expected to provide an individual, with solar power to be paid on instalment.
Kano State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, said the project would also provide job opportunities for the teeming youths across the state and boost the socio-economic status of rural dwellers.
Kwankwaso said to achieve the set objectives, the Kano State government signed an agreement with the company to provide solar facilities.
He expressed the state government’s preparedness to provide all the necessary social amenities across the 44 local government areas.
In a related development, the Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Murtala Garo, represented by the Special Adviser on Local Governments, Alhaji Laminu Sani, commended the state government for the good gesture to the people.
The Country Manager of Shenzhen Lemi Technology Limited, Monica Liang, who signed the Memorandum of Understanding, said the company would provide durable and quality equipment for the project.
