The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has assured the people of the North West that the Federal Government is committed to restoring peace in the region and across Nigeria, and will not relent in its efforts until this is achieved.
The Minister, during a comprehensive security assessment tour of Sokoto State, stated that the visit was part of the Federal Government’s strategic efforts to tackle the ongoing insecurity affecting the North-West region, according to a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director, Information and Public Relations, and made available to Digital TimesNG on Friday.
While visiting Gundumi village, Dr. Matawalle assured residents that the long-closed Gundumi-Isa road would be reopened promptly, with a military camp set up along the route to bolster security and promote economic activities.
He emphasized, “The President is fully committed to ending insecurity in Northern Nigeria, and we are here to ensure that no stone is left unturned.”
The Minister who also visited Isa Local Government Area, where he encouraged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, on another visit to Turba village, reassured the community that additional military personnel would be deployed to strengthen security in the area.
Dr. Matawalle praised the troops at the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni for their resilience and commitment, assuring them that their welfare and logistical needs would be addressed promptly.
In Sabon Birni, he called on the local community to support the military and offer prayers for the troops protecting the nation. He also announced plans to establish a military base between Sabon Birni and Tsamaye to further strengthen security in the region.
The Honourable Minister also visited villages affected by banditry, including Hawan Duro and Mai Lalle, where he promised the deployment of additional military personnel and assured displaced residents that they would be able to return home soon.
In Goronyo LGA, Dr. Matawalle reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to establishing military camps along key routes, while also acknowledging the support of the Sokoto State Government.
During the tour, Dr. Matawalle underscored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to restoring peace and security across Northern Nigeria. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by military personnel and encouraged communities to collaborate with security agencies.
The Federal Government remains steadfast in its efforts to bring peace to the North-West, with the deployment of additional troops and the establishment of new military bases offering hope for a future free from banditry.
