The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is inviting entries for its 2021 National Essay Competition for undergraduates across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
This is NCC’s third in the series of the National Essay Competition designed to inspire innovative essay writing skills in tertiary students across the country, according to a notice seen by DigitalTimesNG.
The Commission said in the public notice signed by Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, its Director, Public Affairs that this year’s edition, will focus on the Fifth Generation (5G) technology with the topic as “5G Technology: Opportunities and Challenges.”
The NCC listed the objectives of the Essay Competition to include increasing awareness on 5G technology; engaging and enhancing awareness; encouraging academic competition and excellence; and building the capacity of undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
To be eligible for the essay competition, the NCC said that applicants must be undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions, both private and public.
“All participants are expected to register their personal details in the form provided for download on the NCC website, signed by their Deans as genuine Nigerian Undergraduates. All essays will be subjected to plagiarism checks. Winners will be invited by the Committee members to defend their essays by way of presentation. Candidates who cannot successfully defend their submissions will be disqualified,” the NCC said in the public notice.
The Commission said that all entries will be assessed on the ground that the essay should contain a minimum of 1,000 words and a minimum of 500 words on the topic; must have an abstract, introduction, main body and conclusion.
Furthermore, the assessment criteria would demand that the essay is referenced; would undergo a rigorous selection process and scrutiny based on content, grammar and structure; and must be submitted to the Commission in PDF format with all necessary attachments.
The NCC said in the notice that potential winners are in for mouth-watering prizes as the first prize winner will smile home with a laptop, printer and N500, 000 cash.
Whereas the second prize winner will go home with N300, 000, the third-place winner will smile home with the sum of N200, 000.
The Commission fixed the deadline for submission of entries for Friday, July 30, 2021, while winning essays will be announced Monday, September 13, 2021.
