As part of ongoing efforts to reform the economy for sustained and inclusive growth, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has emphasized the need for a strategic partnership between NITDA and the MTN Foundation to enhance digital literacy and capacity building in Nigeria.
Inuwa who made this call during a courtesy visit by an MTN Foundation delegation, led by Odunayo Sanya, to NITDA’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, highlighted the significance of collaboration in advancing digital literacy and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for industrialization, aimed at creating a dynamic and diverse economic landscape.
He reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to achieving 95% digital literacy across Nigeria by 2027 through its DL4ALL initiative, which aligns with the Agency’s strategic goal of fostering digital skills and talent development and noted that NITDA is developing a digital literacy framework based on UNESCO and DigiCom standards.
The framework, Digital TimesNG understands, includes a three-phase curriculum for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, with a strong focus on skill acquisition rather than mere certification.
Similarly, the MTN Foundation is committed to digital empowerment and currently offers online programs with over 4,000 courses, enrolling more than 2,000 young Nigerians.
Recognizing NITDA’s efforts, Sanya commended the Agency’s initiatives and extended an invitation for NITDA to unveil its academy platform on April 17.
To further drive digital literacy and capacity building, both organizations have agreed to establish a joint committee to efficiently achieve their shared objectives. This partnership is set to play a key role in advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation in line with the national development agenda.
