On the latest episode of Governance Unplugged, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, MD/CEO of the Anambra State ICT Agency, broke down the real impact of Governor Soludo’s “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” agenda — proving it’s far more than just a catchy slogan.
One major highlight? The proactive removal of Right of Way (RoW) charges by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. This bold move empowered telecom providers to deploy fibre optic infrastructure across the state — dramatically expanding broadband access in homes, markets, schools, and offices. Before now, fibre-to-home was virtually non-existent in Anambra.
This forward-thinking policy set off a chain reaction that’s transforming the digital landscape of the state:
Public Wi-Fi now powers strategic hubs like Onitsha Main Market, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Nsugbe College of Education, 8 student lodges, and 11 other key locations — driving commerce, smart learning, and youth connectivity.
Digital transformation of the civil service: From under 300 functional computers to over 4,000 laptops and devices distributed across MDAs, LGAs, and public schools since 2022. And with the Smart Schools Project gaining momentum, those numbers are expected to climb.
Government digitization: The adoption of the unified @anambrastate.gov.ng domain has become the new face of digital governance, bringing all MDAs onto a single, streamlined digital platform.
Efficient civil service operations: With fiber and Wi-Fi fully installed at the State Secretariat, civil servants can now handle official duties from their offices — eliminating the need for cyber café visits.
But it doesn’t end there.
Through strategic internship programs with UNIZIK and COOU, the ICT Agency has co-developed practical innovations like E-ID cards for civil servants, setting the stage for smarter access, greater efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
As CFA noted on the show, the Soludo administration has not only championed tech-forward policies but has also created a fertile environment for a digital revolution in Anambra.
The ultimate vision? To build a vibrant digital ecosystem — one where public-private partnerships and Ndi Anambra around the world can actively participate and contribute.
This is where technology meets governance.
This is how Anambra builds smarter.
