Excitement is in the air as the grading of about 10 rural feeder roads and filling of two collapsed roads across some wards in Umunneochi Local Government Area has commenced in earnest in fulfilment of the promise made late November by the Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunday Afurobi.

In the meantime, the dropping of red soils in the affected roads within Phase 1 of the Umunneochi Road Maintenance Schedule for December 2024, has commenced, including filling of the bad tarred spots along Amuda- Umuaku and Amuda- Mbala roads to enhance easy and speedy movement by motorists and commuters alike.

Development watchers say the grading of the roads and filling of the bad spots of the mentioned tarred roads would reduce the chances of any criminal act on the roads.

The affected roads include Afor Umuaku Umudi-Amaeke Road, Eke Isuochi-Achara Road, Umukparo Road, Obinuhu Ebelebe Road, Ndiawa Ihie Road, Umuada-Umuada Town Hall Road, and Orie Ngodo- Obinulo-Ndiawa Road.

Others are Umukpaleke Mgbelu-Umuodo Road, Uru Ring Road, Lokpanta, Umuehihe Road from Methodist Church, filling of Amuda-Mbala tarred road (Collapsed Areas) and filling of Amuda-Umuaku tarred Road (Collapsed Areas).

A source revealed that the affected roads were selected through consultations with some ward stakeholders, even as the number picked for the first phase was done in response to available funds.

The source further disclosed that the next phase of the project will accommodate more roads as part of the road improvement efforts of the Umunneochi local government administration led by Chief Sunday Afurobi.

Recall that Mayor Afurobi had few weeks after assuming office in November, announced that Phase 1 of grading of rural feeder roads will commence this December as part of the several projects he outlined aimed at fostering development, empowerment, and improved welfare for residents.

While noting that each ward will benefit from at least one or more roads, with subsequent phases planned as funds become available, Chief Afurobi assured residents that all roads would be attended to in due course and urged patience.

Acknowledging that the project signals the start of various initiatives to enhance infrastructure, security, and economic opportunities across the LGA, Chief Afurobi reaffirmed his commitment to using all allocated funds transparently for the development of Umunneochi.

He emphasized his administration’s mission to build a greater Umunneochi through effective public service delivery, inclusive development, capacity building, and environmental protection for the well-being of residents.
