The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is inviting public input on a series of draft guidelines aimed at enhancing regulatory standards for IT projects and electronic invoicing in Nigeria, reports Digital TimesNG.
This call for feedback aligns with NITDA’s commitment to transparency and collaborative rulemaking in the digital and IT sectors, according to a release signed by Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Director of Communications and Media Relations at NITDA.
Umar listed the draft documents available for public review to include:
- Guidelines for Licensing IT Projects Clearance Compliance Assurance Firms 2024, which establishes standards to ensure IT projects within Federal Public Institutions (FPIs) meet approved quality and regulatory requirements;
- Regulatory Guidelines for Electronic Invoicing in Nigeria, which aims to boost transparency, tax compliance, and e-government automation, supporting Nigeria’s readiness for international digital commerce;
- Guidelines for Software Development, which sets minimum standards for software used by government entities, ensuring operational efficiency, security, and quality; and
- Guidelines for Software Testing, which establishes standards to advance software testing practices within Nigerian government agencies.
Additionally, NITDA is proposing amendments to the 2018 Guidelines for Clearance of IT Projects for Federal Public Institutions (FPIs), with the update seeking to enhance the alignment of IT projects with the Federal Government’s digital infrastructure goals and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement urges members of the public to review these documents on the NITDA website at nitda.gov.ng/draft-regulatory-instruments and are encouraged to submit feedback by email to regulations@nitda.gov.ng by November 26, 2024.
“By considering diverse perspectives, NITDA can ensure these guidelines best serve the needs of the IT industry and promote the development of a thriving digital economy in Nigeria,” Umar said in the statement.
NITDA emphasized that public participation will help shape comprehensive and effective regulatory instruments, supporting Nigeria’s evolving digital economy, and advised stakeholders to send in their review to regulations@nitda.gov.ng on or before 26th November 2024.
