President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose tenure was initially scheduled to end on August 31, 2025.
With this approval, Adeniyi will now serve until August 2026.
The extension, announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is intended to enable Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and deliver on strategic initiatives central to the Tinubu administration’s agenda.
Among these initiatives are the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read.
“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”
Adeniyi was first appointed in an acting capacity in June 2023 following the departure of former CG Hameed Ali. He was later confirmed as substantive Comptroller-General in October 2023.
