In a decisive move to reposition Nigeria for an inclusive digital future, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the launch of its maiden Digital Awareness and Sensitization Fora, a nationwide platform designed to close the gap between policy formulation, infrastructure development, and digital empowerment.
According to a statement signed by Nnenna Ukoha, Head, Public Affairs, NCC, the initiative seeks to foster a more enabling environment for Infrastructure for Innovation and Inclusion, setting the stage for policies that reflect the needs of a rapidly evolving digital society.
The inaugural edition, scheduled for November 13, 2025, is themed “Leaving No One Behind: Digital Assets, Equity, and Empowerment.” It will convene industry experts, policymakers, and grassroots actors to chart practical pathways for bridging Nigeria’s digital divide.
At the heart of the forum are sessions devoted to Designing inclusive and future-ready digital policies; Promoting accessible and sustainable infrastructure deployment; Developing adaptive digital literacy programmes; and Advocating for affordability and accessibility in digital services.
With Africa boasting the world’s youngest population, 60% of whom are under the age of 25, Nigeria forms a substantial part of that demographic strength. The NCC says it is committed to harnessing this “untapped potential” while ensuring that no segment of the population is excluded from the digital revolution.
Beyond expanding opportunities, the Commission also emphasized its ongoing responsibility to protect the nation’s over 140 million Internet users, noting that the sensitization fora will raise awareness on safe and inclusive digital participation.
The event will bring together key stakeholders from regulatory agencies, academia, the private sector, and development partners to explore how digital access can drive equity, empower underserved communities, and accelerate national development.
The initiative is being delivered in collaboration with a broad coalition of partners, including the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), National Orientation Agency (NOA), National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Association of Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ATCON), FintechNGR, KOICA, Terra Industries, Association of Nigerian Inventors (ANI), Secondary Education Board (SEB), Nigerian University Commission (NUC), Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONWAD), Imose Technologies, and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Participants can expect panel discussions, exhibitions by innovators, fintech companies, and students—creating a vibrant showcase of the creativity and ingenuity driving Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
To ensure broad national participation, the event will be livestreamed on scf.ncc.gov.ng.
