The Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Adebayo, has commended the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for its exceptional performance in protecting telecommunications infrastructure across the state.

Adebayo gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Command Headquarters in Abeokuta on Thursday, 27th November 2025.

He praised the Command for its professionalism, rapid response, and intelligence-led operations, noting that Ogun State currently records the lowest incidents of vandalization, fibre cuts, and damages to telecom installations nationwide.

He attributed this achievement to the commitment and leadership of the Ogun State Commandant, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, and the dedicated officers and personnel under her command.

“The results we are seeing in Ogun State are not by accident. They reflect the dedication, discipline, and strategic leadership of Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo. We appreciate the outstanding work she and her team continue to do,” the ALTON Chairman said.

Adebayo also expressed his gratitude to the Corps for its full support of ALTON’s Telecommunications Tower Enumeration Project, a self-regulation initiative endorsed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

He disclosed that enumerators have visited over 2,000 sites across Ogun State, identifying a few abandoned legacy towers that will be reported to the NCC and state planning authorities for necessary action to prevent public safety risks.

In her welcome remarks, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo reaffirmed the NSCDC’s statutory responsibility for the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and described telecommunications infrastructure as “one of the most critical components of the nation’s socio-economic backbone”, essential for connectivity, economic growth, and emergency response systems.

Commandant Ekundayo emphasised the need for deeper collaboration with telecom operators, explaining that the Tower Enumeration Project is “timely, important, and necessary” for improved surveillance, situational awareness, and early detection of risks.

She outlined the Corps’ operational priorities in Ogun State, including intelligence-driven deployments, rapid response capacity, and structured stakeholder engagement—all aimed at enhancing the protection of critical infrastructure.

During the visit, the ALTON Chairman also called on the Federal Government to provide the NSCDC with additional funding, equipment, and a minimum of 40,000 additional personnel to strengthen its capacity nationwide.

He noted that the NSCDC has demonstrated remarkable capability despite limited resources and stressed that increased Government support would enable the Corps to deliver even more effectively on its national mandate.

Adebayo reaffirmed ALTON’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the NSCDC in Ogun State and across the country to ensure reliable national connectivity and the continued protection of vital telecommunications infrastructure.
