In a major step toward boosting digital inclusion and media efficiency, journalists in Anambra State now have access to high-speed fibre internet at the Godwin Ezeemo NUJ Secretariat, Awka, a development that underscores the state government’s commitment to technological empowerment.
The facility, installed and activated by the Anambra State ICT Agency under the leadership of its MD/CEO, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, CFA, fulfills a promise made during the NUJ Congress held on October 3, 2025, and marks another milestone in Anambra’s determined push to embed technology into every facet of governance and civic life.
Announcing the successful installation, Agbata hailed the project as “a testament to what can be achieved when purpose meets partnership.”
He further assured journalists that, “anytime there is power, journalists at the NUJ Secretariat will enjoy seamless and dependable internet access. You journalists are the voice of the people, the guardians of truth, and the architects of an informed society. Supporting your work is not just a duty; it is an honour.”
The initiative directly aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s visionary “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” mantra, a transformative agenda aimed at democratizing internet access, bridging information divides, and deepening inclusion through innovation.
Agbata also used the occasion to commend Governor Soludo for his foresight and enabling leadership, stating, “Thank you, Mr. Governor, for providing the enabling environment and making the bold decision to waive the Right of Way (RoW) charges, which paved the way for broadband access and digital infrastructure development across Anambra.”
By empowering one of the most critical stakeholder groups in state development, the ICT Agency’s gesture not only enhances media productivity but also reinforces Anambra’s reputation as a trailblazer in digital governance, a state where innovation, partnership, and purpose continue to drive progress.
