With the increasing integration of software into every sphere of human life and the need for a secure system, software testing has become even more important than ever.
Software testers play a crucial role in the emerging tech economies like Nigeria by ensuring the quality, reliability, and security of software applications.
In this article, TINAH PETERS, a software test engineer, reviews the impact of software testers in emerging tech economies like Nigeria.
According to the Global Market Insights report, the software testing market size exceeded USD$40 billion in 2020 and is estimated to grow at over 7% CAGR from 2021 to 2027.
The importance of software testing and quality assurance is highly valued in a software development cycle. Both processes refine the whole process and ensure the superior quality of the product.
In addition, it reduces maintenance costs and provides better usability and enhanced functionality. When software testing signs and pushes the individual components, quality assurance attests to the product- fit for the purpose.
Let’s look at the seven impacts of software testers in emerging tech economy like Nigeria:
Quality Assurance: We read about failure of IT related projects in the government. If you trace it down, most of these failures are due to lack of software testing. The most impactful aspect of software testers can be attributed to the development of high-quality software, reducing defects and enhancing user satisfaction. This is essential for the success and competitiveness of tech products and services.
Risk Mitigation: Testers help identify and address potential issues early in the development process, minimizing the risk of software failures or security breaches. This is especially important in emerging tech where robust and secure solutions are vital.
Customer Trust: Ensuring a positive user experience through effective testing builds trust among consumers, promoting the adoption of new technologies. This is crucial for the growth of the tech sector in Nigeria.
Cost Reduction: Detecting and fixing defects early in the development lifecycle is more cost-effective than addressing issues after deployment. Testers contribute to cost savings by preventing the need for extensive post-release corrections.
Adaptability: In the dynamic landscape of emerging technologies, testers play a key role in adapting software to evolving requirements and technologies. They contribute to the agility of development processes.
Compliance and Security: Testers help ensure that software adheres to regulatory requirements and security standards. This is essential in building a trustworthy tech ecosystem in Nigeria, attracting investment and fostering innovation.
Knowledge Transfer: Testers often bridge the gap between developers and end-users, facilitating effective communication and understanding. This promotes collaboration and accelerates the learning curve for new technologies.
In conclusion, software testers contribute significantly to the success and growth of the emerging tech economy by ensuring the reliability, security, and quality of software applications. Their role is integral in building a robust and competitive technological landscape of which Nigeria can become one of them.

Tinah Peters, holds a BSc degree in Business Information Systems from the University of East London and Master’s Degree in Project Planning and Management, University of Bradford. She started her expedition into the digital technology industry with Cyberspace Network Limited as part of the technical product support team that pioneered and contributed to the distribution of retail 4G LTE networks in 2016.
Her spark for product quality ignited which led her to join ALAT, Nigeria’s First Digital Bank. During her time at ALAT, Tinah’s software testing career emerged as a Manual Software Tester and she contributed immensely to the QA processes through the creation of test plans and test cases, which also helped increase user experience. The success achieved with ALAT propelled her to upskill by undertaking a certification, in both Manual Testing and Test Automation.
Tinah later joined Enlumi Data, a SaaS company that produces an array of solutions for businesses to drive quality efforts across the software development lifecycle. While working at Enlumi, the team created a platform called “Lumi Business” to empower SMEs with variant tools like Inventory management, Loyalty Management, Business Analytics and a lot more to aid the growth of their business.
Over the course of her career, Tinah Peters have developed competencies in the use of Java language, automation tools like Selenium, Postman, K6, Testrail, and bug reporting tools like Jira, Notion, and Trello while driving product quality improvement using agile testing practices, {SDLC}.
She played an integral role in designing software testing framework and setting up QA standards and processes to drive product quality improvement.
Tinah presently works with Patricia Technologies Limited as a Software Test Engineer, where she collaborates with the software team to execute automation script and manual tests on Cryptocurrency applications. She plays a strategic role in the development of test plans, test cases, maintaining QA standard and the review of PRD documents from the product team to ensure 100% test coverage before the deployment of applications to users.
Having been in this field of software testing, Tinah’s technical expertise, and experience working with tech startups and strong leadership abilities have enabled her to contribute to the development of world class products within the tech ecosystem in Nigeria and Africa.
