Nigeria has lost one of its most iconic figures in banking, entrepreneurship, and national development, as Pascal Gabriel Dozie passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, just a day before his 86th birthday.

A towering presence in Nigeria’s financial and telecommunications sectors, Dozie was the founder of Diamond Bank, which he established in 1990.

Beyond banking, Dozie played a critical role in Nigeria’s telecom revolution as the pioneer Chairman of MTN Nigeria. His visionary leadership helped lay the foundation for the country’s mobile communication boom, positioning MTN as a market leader.
Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Dozie’s academic journey saw him move from Our Lady’s School in Emekuku to the prestigious London School of Economics, where he earned a master’s degree in administrative science.
A man widely celebrated for his humility, integrity, and forward-thinking approach, Dozie received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
Pascal Dozie leaves behind a profound legacy of innovation, leadership, and dedicated service to Nigeria’s economic progress.
