Konga, Nigeria’s leading composite e-commerce company and a member of the Zinox Group, has unveiled a technology-driven welfare initiative that will give serving and retired members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and their families access to discounted essential goods and services.
The initiative, known as the Defence Discount Scheme (DDS), is being implemented in partnership with the Defence Headquarters and is scheduled to go live on October 1, 2026.
Under the scheme, eligible military personnel will be able to purchase a broad range of products on Konga’s online platform at exclusive discounted rates. The offerings will cut across Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), smartphones, computing devices, home and kitchen appliances, automobiles, food and beverages, renewable energy products and other essential items.
The initiative was unveiled at an event in Abuja attended by the nation’s top military leadership, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, alongside other senior officers and principal officials of the Armed Forces.
Representing Konga and Zinox at the event were Onochie Eche-Chukwuma, Vice President, Commercial Planning at Konga; Kingsley Asonye, Head, Enterprise Solutions at Zinox Technologies Ltd; and Reginald Obiakor, General Manager, Business Development at Zinox Technologies Ltd, who represented the Chairman of Zinox Group, Chief Leo Stan Ekeh.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume, who served as Special Guest of Honour, described the initiative as a welcome addition to the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the welfare of members of the Armed Forces.
Akume particularly highlighted the role of technology and strategic partnerships in delivering tangible benefits to Nigerians who dedicate themselves to national service.
“This platform demonstrates how technology and strategic partnerships can be harnessed to deliver practical benefits to citizens who have dedicated themselves to the service and security of the nation,” Akume stated.
He also commended Zinox Group for its longstanding contribution to Nigeria’s technological development and its role in advancing the country’s digital economy.
Beyond providing access to discounted technology products, the Defence Discount Scheme is structured as a broad-based welfare platform, enabling beneficiaries to shop across several categories of everyday goods and services.
The arrangement is expected to ease the financial burden associated with acquiring essential products for military personnel and their families, while providing them with the convenience of accessing the discounts through Konga’s established e-commerce infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of Zinox Group, Chief Leo Stan Ekeh, Reginald Obiakor expressed the Group’s appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of members of the Armed Forces to national security.
He said Zinox was proud to partner in an initiative focused on improving the welfare of military personnel, reaffirming the Group’s commitment to using technology and strategic partnerships to develop practical solutions to societal needs.
A key component of the scheme is the integration of the Konga platform with the Defence Headquarters’ authentication and verification systems. The arrangement is designed to ensure that access to the exclusive discounts is restricted to eligible personnel.
Participants at the launch were also given a live demonstration of the platform, showing how serving military personnel would authenticate their eligibility, access the available offers and complete purchases through Konga.
The Defence Discount Scheme builds on the broader history of Konga and the Zinox Group in deploying technology to widen access to products, services and digital opportunities across Nigeria.
For nearly three decades, businesses within the Zinox Group have been involved in initiatives aimed at expanding technology adoption and narrowing the country’s digital divide.
Among such initiatives is Computerise Nigeria, through which Zinox partnered with state governments, educational institutions and private organisations to make quality computers available at subsidised rates to students, teachers, civil servants and small business owners.
Since its acquisition by Zinox Group in 2018, Konga has also expanded its operations into an omnichannel model, combining online commerce with physical retail infrastructure and a range of technology-enabled services.
Through its various subsidiaries and platforms, the company has developed solutions spanning digital payments, retail and last-mile delivery, serving consumers and businesses across the country.
The Defence Discount Scheme represents another application of that infrastructure, bringing together Konga’s e-commerce capabilities and the Defence Headquarters’ personnel verification systems to create a dedicated channel for military welfare.
With the scheme scheduled to commence on October 1, 2026, the partnership positions technology not merely as a tool for commerce, but as an avenue for delivering targeted benefits to a critical segment of the Nigerian population.
