Moniepoint has disclosed that it disbursed more than $700 million in loans to Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in 2025, with three out of every four merchants on its platform accessing formal business credit for the first time, underscoring the fintech company’s growing role in driving financial inclusion and economic growth in Nigeria.
The figures are contained in the company’s 2025 Impact Report, which highlights a decade of building digital financial infrastructure aimed at creating “financial happiness” for Africans by expanding access to banking, payments, savings and credit.
According to the report, Moniepoint now serves more than 20 million businesses and individuals, while its subsidiaries process about $250 billion in annual transactions, reflecting the company’s rapid expansion from its origins as TeamApt into one of Africa’s leading financial services providers.
In a note accompanying the report, Co-founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, Tosin Eniolorunda, described financial happiness as the confidence people derive from having reliable financial tools to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
He said the company had evolved beyond being a technology provider to becoming “a direct catalyst for economic transformation,” noting that businesses receiving Moniepoint credit recorded a 36 per cent increase in average transaction value, while lending to women-owned businesses grew by over 300 per cent during the year.
The report reveals that Moniepoint’s lending model addresses one of Nigeria’s biggest barriers to MSME growth by using transaction data rather than collateral to determine creditworthiness.
It noted that the approach has enabled thousands of previously excluded entrepreneurs to obtain financing, build formal credit histories and position themselves for future access to capital.
Beyond access to finance, the company said its merchants are experiencing measurable business improvements.
Survey findings contained in the report indicate that 88 per cent of merchants who received Moniepoint loans reported business growth, while businesses accessing credit recorded higher transaction values. Additionally, 27 per cent of surveyed businesses increased their workforce, with enterprises on the platform collectively employing more than eight million people in 2025.
The report also highlights Moniepoint’s contribution to digital payments across Nigeria. Its POS terminals now operate in all 774 local government areas, enabling 100 million Nigerians to access digital payment services in 2025 and reducing dependence on cash, particularly in underserved communities.
To deepen financial inclusion in remote areas, Moniepoint reported significant adoption of its USSD banking platform, which recorded five million users in 2025, representing a 500 per cent increase over the previous year.
The company said the service has become a critical channel for people using feature phones and living in areas with limited internet connectivity.
The impact report also places particular emphasis on women entrepreneurs. It states that 36 per cent of Moniepoint’s loans were disbursed to women-owned businesses, significantly above the industry benchmark of 15-25 per cent, while 62 per cent of surveyed female entrepreneurs said the loan they received through Moniepoint was their first formal business loan.
In addition to lending, the company said it launched Moniebook, an integrated bookkeeping, inventory and payment management platform designed to help small businesses improve operational efficiency.
According to the report, 91 per cent of merchants said their business operations had improved, 96 per cent reported better transaction security, while 86 per cent experienced increased earnings after joining the platform.
For individual customers, Moniepoint said its savings products are helping users build financial resilience, noting that three out of five customers surveyed reported increased savings after joining the platform, while targeted savings are being used mainly for business capital, rent, school fees and emergency needs.
The company also highlighted broader social impact initiatives undertaken during the year, including partnerships with government agencies to support subsidised rice distribution to 848,592 beneficiaries, financial inclusion programmes, education, women empowerment, youth development and business support initiatives across Nigeria.
Summarising its impact, the report states that 83 per cent of users said their quality of life had improved through Moniepoint’s services, while 85 per cent expressed greater confidence in achieving their financial goals, reinforcing the company’s mission of creating financial happiness through inclusive financial services.
