The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has secured two honours at the 2026 International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Golden World Awards (GWA), held in Athens, Greece.
NITDA, in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) and the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), received the prestigious awards in the Artificial Intelligence in Crisis Management and Publication categories.
The awards recognised the establishment of the Crisis Communication Hub (CCHub), an innovative national framework developed from an empirical research study on the application of artificial intelligence to crisis management, with support from NITDA.
The initiative is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate, manage and respond to communication crises in an increasingly complex digital environment.
A key component of the framework is the use of artificial intelligence for smart governance, including the deployment of AI tools for crisis communication and proactive social listening.
The project also seeks to strengthen efforts to combat misinformation and emerging digital threats by supporting the detection of fake news, deepfakes and other forms of harmful online content capable of undermining public trust.
In addition, the Crisis Communication Hub provides a framework for coordinated crisis response by bringing relevant stakeholders together to manage communication emergencies in a timely and strategic manner.
The awards were formally received at a high-level global gathering at the iconic Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens by Hajiya Hadiza Umar, representing NITDA, alongside Professor Yau Sule of IMPR.
The recognition places Nigeria’s digital innovation and crisis communication efforts on an international platform, while highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence in public communication and governance.
The achievement also underscores NITDA’s efforts to promote digital literacy, responsible and ethical deployment of artificial intelligence, and innovative communication strategies as part of Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda.
