The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed a significant reduction in electricity supply to Lagos following a major fault on its Omotoso-Ikeja West 330-kilovolt (kV) transmission line.
In a statement on Tuesday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed that the transmission line snapped between towers 420 and 422 on March 9, leading to a loss of approximately 350 megawatts (MW) of bulk electricity supply to the state.
The outage has impacted both Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), resulting in widespread load shedding across their franchise areas.
To address the situation, TCN has dispatched engineers to the site and mobilized necessary materials for repairs.
According to Mbah, the restoration process is expected to be completed within three days, after which full bulk power supply will resume through the affected transmission route.
Mbah apologized for the inconvenience caused to the government, electricity distribution companies, and consumers in Lagos, assuring them of TCN’s commitment to resolving the issue as swiftly as possible.
