The first edition of the 2022 Digital Africa Leadership Series holds on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, and will have as guest, Mr. Mitchell Elegbe, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Interswitch Nigeria.

The Digital Africa Leadership Series is a platform to identify, showcase and share the personal stories, experiences and impact of Tech players and Policymakers as shining examples for Africa and Africans to emulate.

This edition’s topic is Startups: Profits versus Market Share: Personal Journey, and will be hosted by Mr. Bosun Ayeni.

Digital Times understands that the chat will provide Elegbe with the opportunity to share his personal journey on how Interswitch went from being a Startup to achieving the Unicorn status.

The general public and in particular, small business owners and startup founders are invited to participate in this life-changing interaction by registering at https://cutt.ly/DASeries

Analysts believe that Startups are building something nobody wants, something that is not about ideas, but about what people want, and this is one of the major reasons startups fail.

“The second is what we experience more and more in Nigeria, and that is talent, we don’t have the people to make a great idea work.

“A lot of people might say funding but funding comes a distant 5th why startups fail in our environment because invariably if you are building and you are getting that traction, there are a lot of people who will find you.

“Startups are different to the SMEs; Startups are in the innovation area. They are typically doing something no one has done before, and that’s what they don’t know.

“If for example, you want to put a Chinese restaurant into Asokoro, it’s easy because you know two or three people have done that. All you are trying to do is to see if you can attract some customers to break even; that’s an SME module,” Digital Africa said in a statement announcing the programme.
