Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has received a double honour after being named among Nigeria’s leading public relations professionals in the prestigious 2026 PR Power List and unveiled as a cover personality for the special PR Power List edition of Glazia Magazine.
The recognition was announced during the exclusive PR Power List Soirée and Awards held at the Alliance Française, Ikoyi, Lagos, where Mrs. Umar was pleasantly surprised by the unveiling of the magazine cover, further underscoring her growing influence in strategic public sector communications and narrative management.
The annual PR Power List, compiled by GLG Communications in partnership with The Guardian to mark World PR Day, celebrates 50 outstanding public relations professionals in Nigeria and the diaspora whose work has significantly shaped organisational reputation, influenced public discourse, and advanced the communications profession over the past year.
Reacting to the twin honours, Mrs. Umar expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing the magazine cover feature as an unexpected and memorable moment.
“I am deeply humbled and honoured to be recognized on the 2026 PR Power List and to feature on the cover of Glazia Magazine alongside other exceptional industry titans,” Umar said.
“This milestone is a testament to the enabling environment and visionary leadership of the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, which has allowed us to strategically drive the narrative of Nigeria’s digital economy and technological innovation.”
A seasoned communications strategist, Mrs. Umar is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the African Public Relations Association (APRA), and the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration (CICA).
She has played a pivotal role in strengthening NITDA’s public engagement, leading strategic communication efforts that have amplified the Agency’s digital economy agenda, technology innovation programmes, startup ecosystem initiatives, regulatory frameworks, and nationwide digital literacy campaigns.
Through her leadership of NITDA’s Corporate Communications and Media Relations Department, the Agency has consistently enhanced public awareness of key national initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation and positioning Nigeria as a globally competitive digital economy.
According to the organisers, the 2026 PR Power List was determined through a rigorous and independent selection process conducted by an international panel of judges.
They noted that this year’s honourees represent a new generation of communications leaders distinguished by excellence, innovation, and their contributions to raising professional standards across the industry.
Recall that in the 2025 edition of the prestigious PR Power List, Mrs Umar was named one of Nigeria’s top 50 public relations and communications professionals in a significant nod to excellence in public sector communications.
The recognition, jointly unveiled by GLG Communications in collaboration with The Guardian newspaper, celebrated leading voices shaping strategic communication across Nigeria and the diaspora.
Mrs Umar was honoured then in the “Rising Voices” category, which acknowledged fast-emerging communication leaders demonstrating creativity, agility, and measurable impact in public engagement.
Mrs. Umar’s inclusion in the 2026 PR Power List and her appearance on the cover of Glazia Magazine further reinforce her standing as one of Nigeria’s foremost public relations professionals, recognised for leveraging strategic communication to advance institutional credibility and national development.
