The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) is stepping up efforts to expand the adoption of Nigeria’s .ng domain name by engaging software engineers, web developers and other technology professionals through its inaugural .ng Developers Connect, scheduled for October 29, 2026.
The virtual event, themed “Building Nigeria’s Web,” is aimed at strengthening collaboration between NiRA and the country’s developer community to improve the performance, reliability and accessibility of locally developed digital products while encouraging more Nigerians and businesses to embrace the .ng domain.
NiRA said developers are central to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy, noting that their technical decisions often influence domain name selection, registration and configuration for businesses, institutions and individuals seeking to establish or strengthen their online presence.
According to the association, closer engagement with developers is therefore essential to expanding the use of Nigeria’s country-code top-level domain and ensuring that locally built websites and digital services deliver better experiences for users.
The event will also address practical issues associated with building digital products for Nigerian users, including mobile-first website development, hosting, Domain Name System (DNS) configuration, website speed, unstable internet connectivity and the responsible use of artificial intelligence across the software development lifecycle.
NiRA noted that building reliable digital products for Nigeria requires developers to consider local internet conditions, varying levels of connectivity, mobile device usage and the growing expectations of digital consumers.
Beyond technical discussions, the .ng Developers Connect seeks to establish a sustained relationship between NiRA and developers, positioning the community as partners in promoting the adoption of Nigerian domain names and strengthening the country’s digital ecosystem.
The association is also expected to use the engagement to gather feedback from developers on challenges encountered when registering, configuring and managing .ng domains, with a view to improving the registry’s services and creating more effective channels of collaboration.
NiRA is therefore inviting web developers, software engineers, application developers, technology entrepreneurs and digital solutions providers nationwide to participate in the programme and contribute to conversations on the future of Nigeria’s web.
The .ng domain serves as Nigeria’s national digital identity online on the global internet, providing businesses, institutions and individuals with a locally identifiable online presence.
The association encouraged interested developers to register through its official event portal at https://nira.org.ng/developersconnect/.
Through the Developers Connect initiative, NiRA aims to deepen awareness and use of the domain while encouraging developers to play a more active role in building a faster, more reliable and distinctly Nigerian web.
