Digital Africa Conference and Exhibition is unarguably Africa’s premier annual consumer technology show which provides the perfect platform for policymakers and notable ICT experts and personalities to discuss the development of Africa’s ICT sector and proffer solutions to the challenges limiting her digital growth.

Today, Tuesday, September 19, 2023, all roads will lead to Abuja, Nigeria’s political capital as this year’s edition of the Digital Africa Conference & Exhibition officially kicks off.

The 11th in the series, this year’s Digital Africa Conference & Exhibition has as its theme ‘AI & Africa’ and is billed to hold at the Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja, FCT.

The two-day event is expected to be declared open at 9: 00am by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani who is also the special guest of honour at the event.

Nneoma Ofodile, General Manager, Digital Africa said in a statement that a keynote address titled: “Sustainable AI Technology for Africa: Harnessing the power of Intelligent Technologies to solve African challenges” will be given by Asst. Prof. Dr. Uche Mbanaso, Executive Director, Centre for Cybersecurity, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nasarawa State at Day 1 of the two-day event.

The first day will also feature panel sessions focusing on such topics as “Building a Sustainable AI Ecosystem in Africa: The role of Public-Private Partnerships, Policy, and Innovation”, and “AI in Healthcare: Improving Access to Quality Healthcare in Rural and Underserved Communities in Africa.”

The statement further showed that Day 2 and the final day of the continental event would commence with a keynote address titled: “The Future of Sustainable AI Technology in Africa: Opportunities, Challenges and Emerging Trends” to be delivered by Dr. Chuks Ekwueme, Chairman/CEO Unicorn Group.

Day 2 activities also include four different panel sessions on “AI in Education: Personalising Learning and Promoting Digital Literacy in Africa”; “AI Transformation: Opportunities for the Telecom Consumer”; “AI and Financial Inclusion: Promoting Access to Financial Services for All Africans”; and AI and Entrepreneurship: Leveraging Intelligent Technologies to Drive African Innovation and Economic Growth.”

Dr. Evans Woherem, Chairman of Digital Africa Group explained that the choice of AI and Africa as the theme of this year’s Digital Africa Conference & Exhibition is both timely and crucial, noting that because the world is in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, marked by intelligence, AI is therefore, at the heart of this new industrial revolution.

“AI has huge benefits for countries, organisations, and individuals, but also has the potential to cause harm. This means that countries can ignore AI only at their peril. It is for this reason that numerous countries are taking AI very seriously as seen by their budgets and regulatory measures towards its development and implementation,” he said.

Digital Africa Conference and Exhibition is unarguably Africa’s premier annual consumer technology show which provides the perfect platform for policymakers and notable ICT experts and personalities to discuss the development of Africa’s ICT sector and proffer solutions to the challenges limiting her digital growth.

Digital Africa Conference & Exhibition has been firmly established as a major platform for uniting Africa’s ICT stakeholders and decision makers for technical discussions, networking and showcasing of innovative ideas, products and services.

Previous editions of the Digital Africa Conference & Exhibition had attracted the crème de la crème of the ICT ecosystem, including innovators and exhibitors, and analysts believe this year’s edition will not be different, especially against the backdrop of such topical issue as AI being put in the front burner.
